2024 Honda CRF110F Review

There is nothing like learning to ride a motorcycle as a kid, and the 2024 Honda CRF110F is a great place to start for a young rider. Now in its eleventh year, with a significant update introduced in 2019, the CRF110F continues to inspire new youngsters to get into motorcycling. It is also Green Sticker legal in California, which is a major benefit for owners who want to legally ride on state and federal land.

Because none of the staff members are small enough to properly test the 2024 Honda CRF110F on the trail, we left that task to Avery Bart. We kept a close watch on her and checked in after every ride. Avery is nine years old and not new to riding, but the CRF110F represents a clear step up from the CRF50F and the CRF E2.

Honda has done a great job making the CRF110F easy to ride and easy to own. Fuel injection and electric start sit at the top of the feature list for both parents and young riders. Push button starting is a big advantage, especially since kickstarting a four stroke can be difficult for smaller riders. For those who prefer it, the CRF110F still includes a kickstarter. The keyed ignition also allows parents to prevent unsupervised riding.

Fuel injection further improves ease of use. There is no petcock or choke to worry about. Simply press the start button and the air cooled SOHC 109cc engine comes to life and settles into a smooth and predictable idle. Long warm up routines and carburetor related issues from sitting unused are largely eliminated.

Ease of riding continues with the automatic clutch. The rider only needs to shift the four speed transmission, with neutral positioned at the bottom of the shift pattern. Avery adapted quickly, and the CRF110F wide powerband means precise gear selection is not critical to having fun. First gear allows riding at walking speed, while fourth gear reaches roughly forty miles per hour. That speed is still beyond Avery comfort zone, giving her room to grow without the bike feeling intimidating.

With a gallon of fuel in the tank, the 2024 Honda CRF110F weighs 169 pounds. While it is not particularly light, that is typical for playbikes in this category. Keeping the price affordable is a priority, with an MSRP of $2699, so lightweight materials are not the focus. The twin spar frame is steel, introduced with the 2019 update, rather than aluminum like Honda competition models.

The suspension is non adjustable with less than four inches of travel. Ground clearance measures 6.7 inches. There is no skid plate, and the bike uses a fourteen inch front wheel and a twelve inch rear wheel. Altogether, this makes the CRF110F best suited for smoother trails. Riders should avoid rocks and logs until stepping up to a model like the CRF125F.

That said, Avery confidently rides the 2024 Honda CRF110F wherever she wants. Her expectations are realistic at this stage, and she is not aiming to become a hard enduro rider just yet. Instead, the CRF110F serves perfectly as the next step up from the fifty class. She is already excited to be riding a 110 after learning on smaller bikes.

Maintenance is simple and infrequent, which is important for parents who are not mechanically inclined. The flat air filter needs occasional cleaning and is located behind the tank shroud, with four bolts securing the airbox cover. The chain adjuster uses a simple screw type design.

Oil changes are easy because there is no skid plate or oil filter. An oil strainer screen should be cleaned once a year. Drum brakes are easy to adjust, although this is rarely necessary since young riders tend to rely on engine braking. The spark plug follows an inspect only maintenance schedule. Fuel level is easy to monitor thanks to a warning light.

Styling is another strong point, especially for younger riders. For 2024, Honda offers a White color option with a teal seat and matching graphics on white bodywork. We rode the traditional Red version, which Avery liked, though the White option is sure to be popular.
