Honda CRF300L Review

The Honda CRF300L is a lightweight dual-sport motorcycle built for riders who want one bike that can handle city streets, backroads, gravel roads and light trail riding. It is not the most powerful bike in its class, but it delivers a strong mix of reliability, easy handling and everyday usability.

Riding Experience

On the road, the CRF300L feels light, simple and easy to control. It is comfortable at lower speeds, fun on twisty backroads and capable enough for short highway rides. For longer highway use, some riders may want more power, a better seat and a small windscreen.

Off-road, the bike feels manageable and confidence-inspiring. It handles gravel roads, fire trails, light mud, rocks, ruts and basic adventure riding well. The low-end power and gearing make it easy to ride at slower speeds, especially for exploring rather than aggressive trail riding.

Engine and Performance

The 286cc fuel-injected engine has enough power for mixed riding and feels especially useful on backroads and trails. Gear changes are smooth, and the light clutch makes the bike easy to ride in traffic or technical sections.

One downside is the throttle response. At low speeds and in lower gears, the throttle can feel a little jerky, especially when the bike is new. This tends to improve after more kilometres, but it is still something riders may notice.

Comfort and Handling

The CRF300L is light and easy to move around, which makes it great for newer riders or anyone stepping down from a heavier adventure bike. The seat is not the most comfortable for long rides, but it is acceptable for shorter trips and weekend exploring.

The suspension is soft, which is fine for casual riding, commuting and light trails. Heavier riders or more aggressive off-road riders may want to upgrade the rear shock or suspension setup.

Fuel Range

The fuel tank is small at 7.8 litres, so range can be limited depending on how and where you ride. For local rides and short adventures, it is fine. For longer remote trips, a larger aftermarket tank or extra fuel container may be useful.

Pros

  • Reliable Honda engine
  • Lightweight and easy to ride
  • Good low-end power
  • Smooth gearbox
  • Light clutch feel
  • Good for road and trail use
  • Strong aftermarket support
  • Simple and practical dual-sport design

Cons

  • Soft suspension, especially for heavier riders
  • Small fuel tank
  • Seat could be more comfortable
  • Throttle can feel jerky at low speeds
  • Stock tyres are average off-road
  • Side stand feels slightly short

Final Verdict

The Honda CRF300L is a great all-round dual-sport bike for riders who want something light, reliable and easy to use. It is not designed to be a high-performance enduro bike or a long-distance highway machine, but it does a lot of things well.

If you want a dependable motorcycle for commuting, backroads, gravel tracks and weekend trail exploring, the CRF300L is a strong choice. With a few upgrades such as better tyres, a more comfortable seat, a skid plate or a larger fuel tank, it can become an even better adventure-ready dual-sport bike.
